The 5550 Mechanical Switch is designed for machines where there is a significant change in vibration (normal vs. malfunction). Because of the mechanical nature of the spring/actuation etc. the 5550 is not appropriate for applications where the customer wants a precise alarm value. The 5550 alarms are set by installing the 5550 on the machine, running the machine, decreasing the alarm setting on the 5550 until the relay trips, and then setting the alarm 1/8th turn above this point (see 4.2 In-Situ Setpoint Adjustment in the 5550 manual). For applications where a specific (known) alarm setting is desired an electronic switch should be used (i.e. 440)
